He is Herbert Malecdan Todyog who just turned 100 years of age almost two years ago. Of course, it cannot be denied that reaching this age is difficult to reach, making him extra special.

Born in March 10, 1918, in the same locality, he said that eating camote, squash, banana, as well as legumes that are organically-grown within the village is of big help in reaching 100 years.

What is great to note is that, he has still clear eyesight, he was never hospitalized, and that he can still walk. This is is according to a post from the FB page of the Municipality of Bontoc.

What probably gave him long life as well as clear eyesight despite being a centenarian are the organically-grown vegetables from the backyard, such as squash and camote.

It is worth mentioning that the sweet potato or more popularly known in the Philippines as camote comes with an array of vitamins and minerals, including potassium, vitamin C, calcium, and more. These nutrients are said to be effective as antidiabetic, anti-cancer, antioxidant, as well as anti-inflammatory.

According to Araceli Shane Bayanos, a Social Welfare Officer III at the Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office (MSWDO), Todyog has a child, four grandchildren, as well as 23 great-grandchildren. He also has an adopted daughter who currently lives in Baguio City.

100-year-old Herbert Malecdan Todyog was included in the list of centenarian awardees that was recognized by the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD). As one of the centenarians, he received P100,000 cash incentive from the personnel of the DSWD.

Apart from the P100,000 that centenarian Todyog received from the DSWD, he also received P30,000 cash incentive from the Provincial Government of Mountain Province in October of 2018.

At present, he is living alone in Bontoc. However, his family members see to it that they visit him every now and then so to give basic necessities.
