Miss International 2013 Winner Bea Rose Santiago in need of life-saving kidney transplant
Few days ago, Bea Rose Santiago shared that she has chronic kidney disease. In her recent Instagram post, netizens were shocked when she revealed that she “kinda have kidney failure.”
Chronic kidney disease or CKD refers to all 5 stages of kidney damage, from very mild damage in Stage 1 to complete kidney failure in Stage 5. The stages of kidney disease are based on how well the kidneys can do their job – to filter waste and extra fluid out of the blood. In the early stages of kidney disease, your kidneys are still able to filter out waste from the blood. In the later stages, your kidneys have to work harder to get rid of waste, and may stop working altogether. source: kindneyfund.org
The former Miss International shared on Instagram that she even visited specialists in Tokyo to seek for a second medical opinion on her initial diagnosis in Manila.
“I was diagnosed months ago, I was in denial and that’s why I left the Philippines to get a second opinion in Tokyo and [then] it turned out to be a confirmation,” she wrote.
Bea Rose is now living in Canada with her family and potential kidney donors.
“I will be needing a life-saving transplant. I live because of a machine, my dialysis machine and the doctors and nurses at Home Hemo Dialysis centre in Toronto General,” the former Miss International said
After these eye-opening experiences, she started encouraging people to get themselves checked if they feel something weird to avoid possible kidney related disease.
“I am not asking for sympathy, I am asking for awareness… I suffered no symptoms… So please please when you feel weird and off, go get yourself checked,” she said.
In one of her Instagram posts, she assured her IG followers that she will fight off the disease until she gets healed.
“[This] does not mean I’m done. I’m unstoppable and will be healed! God loves me and he keeps showering me with love and blessings from friends and family! I am lucky and I am loved,” Bea Rose Santiago said.
