Bangkok, Thailand – The much-awaited finals of Miss Universe 2018 was held at Impact Arena, Muang Thong Thani in Bangkok, Thailand. During the coronation night earlier, we posted live updates of Miss Universe 2018 results as it happens.
Ninety-four Miss Universe 2018 candidates from around the globe participated in this year’s most prestigious beauty pageant. Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters, Miss Universe 2017 from South Africa finally passed her Mikimoto Crown to Miss Philippines Catriona Gray – the newly crowned Miss Universe 2018.
From Gloria Diaz (1969), Margie Moran (1973) to Pia Wurtzbach, who ended a four-decade drought in 2015, Catriona is the 4th Filipina to win the Miss Universe title. Catriona Gray bested 93 other gorgeous delegates exactly two years after placing 4th runner-up in Miss World 2016.
When asked what is the most important lesson she learned in her life and how she would apply it to her time as Miss Universe, Gray related her experience working with a nongovernment organization that pushes for education to children in impoverished areas.
“I work a lot in the slums of Tondo, Manila, and the life there is very poor and very sad, and I’ve always taught myself to look for the beauty in it, to look in the beauty of the faces of the children, and to be grateful. I would bring this aspect as a Miss Universe to see situations with a silver lining, and to assess where I could give something, where I could provide as a spokesperson. If I could teach people to be grateful, we could have an amazing world where negativity could not grow and foster, and children would have a smile on their faces,” Gray said.
Pageant related sites and various entertainment Youtube channels already published their list of favorite delegates which include Miss Philippines Catriona Gray, Miss Ecuador Virginia Limongi, Miss Curacao Akisha Albert, Miss South Africa Tamaryn Green, Miss Puerto Rico Kiara Ortega, Miss Australia Francesca Hung, Miss USA Sarah Rose Summers, Miss Thailand Sophida Kanchanarin, Miss Venezuela Sthefany Gutiérrez, and Miss India Nehal Chudasama.
