There is no denying that many Filipinos are heroes in their own way.
Just recently, a photo showing a grade school teacher in Dagupan carrying her pupils through their flooded school entrance made waves over the social media. As a result, the teacher has earned praises from thousands of netizens across the globe.
Leonora Fernandez is a Grade 1 teacher and a guidance counselor at West Central One Elementary in Dagupan City, Pangasinan. Every time it rains in their place, the area between the school’s gate and her classroom is flooded.
The teacher says she usually carries 16 out of 21 Grade 1 pupils every time it floods in their school to keep the kids safe and dry. Most of her pupils cannot afford to purchase rain boots.
Valentin Hortaleza, the school’s principal, said that Fernandez always does this heroic deed because, just like other teachers, she loves her pupils.
Other teachers from her school are also proud of Fernandez. They believe that she serves as an inspiration not only to teachers but also to pupils and students.
