Manila, Philippines — The water shortage which began on March 7 affected many households and establishments in Metro Manila as well as its neighboring province, Rizal. In an interview with Inquirer, Mandaluyong Public Information Office; Jimmy Isidro already told Mandaluyong City Mayor Carmelita Abalos it is possible that the water shortage will happen until August. This is according to Manila Water. He said that the agency explained things will get back to normal by August during the rainy season. He added that La Mesa Dam’s water supply is in the critical level right now and the affected areas get their water supplies there. In the middle of this water shortage are people who are wishing to have heavy rainfall soon.

Aside from this terrible situation, what garnered the attention of many is the way Manila Water responds. First off, the main source of Manila Water is Angat Dam. PAGASA said that Angat Dam still has normal levels of water. Aside from that, there is no sign of drought or El Nino for Angat Dam.

Communications Manager for Manila Water Dittie Galang insisted that the water coming from Angat Dam has difficulty going through the La Mesa Dam because it’s already in its critical level. She said that the agency issued a proper warning that there might be a crisis. She said they informed people that it’s possible there would be water interruption but the citizens refute these claims. The inhabitants of Metro Manila and Rizal said that Manila Water didn’t say there was an interruption schedule.

Jimmy Isidro also said that Manila Water is giving the people a hard time. He said that they don’t follow through those schedules. He added that there are five barangays in their municipality experiencing zero water supply. He hopes that the given schedule will be true this time.
