The Most Beautiful Day in the Universe

The quest for the crown, and also the most beautiful day in the Universe – Miss Universe 2017 was held today at The Axis at Planet Hollywood, Las Vegas. This year was a tough one because of equally beautiful and talented 92 candidates owning the runway and uniquely showcasing their talent in all the pageantry activities.

The pageant was divided into continents namely Asia pacific, Europe, America, and Wildcard. At the start of the show, the crowd’s obvious favorite was USA, Thailand, South Africa, and Philippines’  bet Rachel Peters.

Top 4 in Africa and Asia Pacific includes Thailand, Sri Lanka, Ghana, and South Africa. Those who advances in Europe are Spain, Ireland, Croatia, and Great Britain.  Americas who also moved forward to the next round are Colombia, USA, Brazil, and Canada. The most surprising top 4 of wildcard includes Philippines, Venezuela, Jamaica, and China.

As a special award, Japan wins National Costume.

Fergie performed for the evening gown competition. Donned in a metallic and curvy gown, Rachel Peters owned and wowed everyone with his classy walk. Gown is reportedly designed by Michael Cinco.

Top 5 Announcement

Contestants who moved to top 5 are South Africa, Venezuela, Thailand, Jamaica, and Colombia.

Jamaica, Colombia, and Jamaica made it to the final three. With just one question for the three candidates, it makes it easier for the judges to compare their answers. Final question is “What quality in yourself are you most proud of, and how will you apply that quality to your time as Miss Universe?”

Jamaica’s answer:

The most quality that I’m most appreciative of is my drive, my determination. I am the founder of the foundation that that spreads awareness for the deaf community, and this platform is just a great platform to let this person know that this persons need opportunities and equal goals in society. So Miss Universe competition will be the platform to use this foundation to spread awareness for all the deaf around. Thank you.

Colombia’s answer:

I’m incredibly passionate in everything I do. With compassion, I put my whole self in every situation that I work out . I’ve done this as an actress. I’ve done this as Colombian, and I do not doubt that I will do this as Miss Universe. Thank you.

South Africa’s answer:

A Miss Universe is a woman who has overcome many fears, and by that she was able to help other woman overcome their fears. She is a woman that nothing is ever too much to ask for, and I think that is exactly who I am.”

Rachel Platter performed Broken Glass as a breather before the announcement, and the final three took their final walk.

Iris Mittanarae took her final walk and wowed the audience with his elegant red gown. Finally, the moment everyone was waiting for, the announcement of winners.

Jamaica was 2nd runner-up. The new Miss Universe is South Africa’sDemi-Leigh Nel-Peters, with Colombia as 1st runner-up. This years edition marks the return of The Phoenix Mikimoto Crown (wiki) which was last worn by Miss Japan Riyo Mori in 2007.
