It is every kid’s ultimate dream is to have a treehouse. The idea of playing with other kids outdoor and sharing a little place with a group of friends build closer connection and a sense of adventure.
In 1993, Horace Burgess, a local minister in Crossville, Tennessee, claimed to have had a divine vision and commandment from God to build a treehouse. He said that God told him, “If you build a treehouse, I’ll see that you’ll never run out of material.” Being a believer that he is, he began the construction.
This treehouse and church was supported by 6 trees, the largest being a still-living 80-foot tall white oak tree. The structure is 4 stories high and has 80 rooms, making it the largest treehouse in the world. Known to the public as Horace Burgess’s Treehouse or the Minister’s Treehouse, it has become a famous tourist attraction. However, it was closed by the state in 2012 due to being a fire hazard.
The public is hoping that necessary changes will be made so that visitors and tourists may once again be allowed to enjoy this place.
