  • DOLE announced that the first batch of OFW IDs are now available.

  • These IDs will replace the Overseas Employment Certificate.

  • What are the steps in getting this ID?

If you are an Overseas Filipino Worker (OFW) or you know someone working as one, encountering the hassle of getting an Overseas Employment Certificate (OEC) is not something new for you. The OEC, which serves as a proof or a license that you are going to work legally in another country, is needed for you to leave the premises of the Philippines. Without this document, you will not be allowed to leave the country or return to your country of employment.

Purpose of an OFW ID

The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) announced that instead of the regular OEC, OFWs can now get their OFW IDs. This ID is going to replace the OEC and will also act as a form of identification for the OFWs. It will be directly connected to the iDOLE or a system which can store the information of the overseas worker.

Starting next week, OFWs can finally get their OFW IDs from DOLE to help fast-track their government transactions. The steps in obtaining one are very simple. However, according to DOLE Secretary Silvestre Bello III, due to the limited number of iDOLE card for the first batch, only the returning OFWs or Balik Mangagagawa will get their IDs.

This is also to help identify any system errors and also to secure the database for the future batches.
