  • He now has ordered to remove the names of politicians from the school buildings

Manila, Philippines – It has only been a week since the new public officials have taken their oath to serve, and most of them has taken the initiative to make drastic changes. One of them is Manila mayor Isko Moreno.

A day after Moreno took his oath, he was in the news because of what he asked University of the East, when he said he ordered the suspension of classes for all levels, while UE only suspended levels Kinder to Grade 12. He asked that they follow the local government announcement or they can revoke their permit to operate.

He has also made the headline after he was able to clear the streets of Manila. Places like Recto and Divisoria is known to be saturated with vendors, but in a few days, it became clean. It was mentioned that he had a few dialogues with the vendors and he will allow them to continue their business but they have to go through the legal processes.

Today, he has a new order where he wants all politicians’ names to be removed from school buildings, including his own.

Coming from an article by Rappler, he wants to remove the “epal” at schools, gymnasiums, and basketball courts. “Epal” is a Filipino slang used to describe a person that always presents himself when he is unneeded.

The announcement was made while he was in a meeting with the Manila City School Board. It was also mentioned that he wants to have such names removed from both public and private schools and that it should be done “in the next few days.”

After all politicians’ names to be removed from schools, he plans on doing the same for hospitals. He was also quoted to remind everyone that it’s the people’s money that funds public projects.
