Money is Not Everything
A struggling chemical engineering graduate from the University of Santo Tomas badly needed P500 to pay for his Transcript of Records when he found a bag containing an amount of P34,000.
When he was about to pay for his university records, a requirement for board exams by the Professional Regulation Commission, Vince Luiz Cruz noticed that he’s short of P500.
He then noticed an unattended bag. When he opened the bag, he was surprised to see a lot of P1,000 bills which totaled to P34,000.
Although he was tempt stated to take the money and to pay for his bills and other personal spendings, he stated that he could not let his greed take over.
His parents were both shoemakers. Cruz was able to complete his degree from UST on a scholarship.
“I don’t want to fail my parents. I came from a poor family. My parents were both shoemakers and I studied in UST as scholar.”
“I might not be the most intelligent student UST could have but I always look forward to becoming a better person every day for my family, friends and especially in front of God. In our everyday life if you cannot make God happy, don’t do it.”
Cruz immediately took the bag and took it to the university chapel. He entrusted the money to Father Jeff Aytona. Cruz also mentioned that giving the money to the priest is the first thing in his mind.
“I could have just taken the 34,000 pesos and [buy] school supplies, a new cellphone, etc., but that was not UST taught me.”
Because of his good deed, the University of Santo Tomas decided to give his transcript of records for free.
