A photo of a Philippine Air Force soldier who was seen feeding two street children in Lapu-Lapu City in Cebu recently went viral.
The caption read, “One act of kindness. A friend took these photos of a man from the Philippine Air Force buying chickenjoy meals for these two street children in Jollibee, Gaisano Capital, Lapu-Lapu City. Salute to you sir!”
According to an ABS-CBN report, the said soldier was identified as Airman Mario Teadila. He is a member of the 560th Air Base Wing of the Philippine Air Force.
The said viral photo has been posted on the official Facebook page of Lapu-Lapu City.
In a television interview, Teadila recounted that he saw the two street children sleeping near the mall right after he had just sent money to his family in Batangas.
The 21-year-old soldier said he woke up the two boys to ask if they had already eaten. He then brought the two boys into a fast food chain to feed and talked to them.
When asked during the interview why he did such act to these two children, he answered that this was how he was raised by his parents.
The report said that the soldier, who is originally from Lipa City in Batangas, came from a poor family.
He also told that he decided to become a soldier to help his family.
Teadilla is the third of fourth children and started working at age 19, as a promodiser.
Jesicabioco Pogoy Lofrancocelocia, a Facebook user, commented on the post, “Salute to you sir for having a big heart for the needy…God bless you always!”
“If every person who liked and commented on this gave a free meal to a street kid instead of simply giving a thumbs up or whining about politicians, we would have more than 11,000 street people fed over the last 2 days. That’s enough meals to feed all of the visible street kids in Cebu for a full day!,” another Facebook user, Ian Dionson, commented on the said Facebook post.
