The project started as a Kickstarter campaign to provide resources for Beth David’s and Esteban Bravo’s creative vision.
The two students wanted to create a short film for their senior thesis depicting young love or first childhood crush but they ended up telling the tale in a different and mind blowing way.
This 2017 computer-animated short film is about a heartwarming story of a young boy named Sherwin chasing the “boy of his dreams.”
Sherwin was reluctant and nervous to profess young love to his classmate Jonathan in the fear of “being outed by his own heart.”
But love is love, and the heart wants what the heart wants.
The film’s ending will definitely put a smile on your face and warmth in your heart.
Unlike other Hollywood animated films, the story is told without words, just music and animation. It also explicitly showcases same-sex romance and boldly explores the confusions of gay children.
The film’s storyline and relatability gained the attention of LGBT advocates including singer Adam Lambert and actor Ashton Kutcher.
It has also been shared on Ellen Degeneres’ YouTube channel.
This film now has almost 27 million views after its release on July 31, 2017 on YouTube.
In my opinion, the film goes viral because it not only validates the feelings and experiences of the members of the LGBT community but also showcases the complex and compelling reality of the world we live in.
