Young Africans Around the World Showcase the Beauty Of Africa Using Twitter & a Hashtag

Africa is often stereotyped by mainstream media as a poor and chaotic place full of disease. Annoyed by these misrepresentations and misleading impressions, young Africans around the world unite in a twitter campaign using a hashtag “#TheAfricaTheMediaNeverShowsYou.”

And FYI, Africa is not a country. It is a continent and a host to a large cultural, linguistic and ethnic diversity with approximately 54 countries (2 disputed).

To showcase the continent’s hidden beauty, young Africans share interesting images including pristine beaches, state-of-the-art buildings, tourist sites and natural landscapes. The campaign has gathered over 50,000 tweets and retweets to date.

So when are you visiting Africa?
