Filipino elementary students bagged 11 medals and a trophy in an international math competition in Hong Kong
Young Filipino Mathematicians are indeed outstanding. In fact, some Filipino elementary students nabbed 11 medals plus a trophy during an international math competition in Hong Kong.
Eight Grade 5 students who were part of the Philippine team grabbed two silver along with four bronze medals in the individual contest. Meanwhile, the team also brought home a trophy plus four silver medals in the team category.

The 22nd Po Leung Kuk Primary Mathematics World Contest (PMWC) was held in Hong Kong from July 15 to 19 this year.
The information was relayed by the Mathematics Trainers Guild-Philippines (MTG) which was then published by the Philippine Information Agency.
Filipino Mathematicians / Students who won silver medals during the contest were from Stonyhurst Southville International School – Malarayat (Michael Gerard Tongson) and Jubilee Christian Academy (Jerome Austin).
In the meantime, bronze medalists include Iris Lexi Ababon from Colegio San Agustin – Makati, Kody Briones from Emmanuel Christian School, Sean Jang from Elizabeth Seton School – South, and Sophie Jill Co from Pace Academy.
The team that got second place during the competition include Briones, Te, Tongson and Grabriel Hong from Pace Academy.
MTG President Dr. Isidro Aguilar has congratulated the young Mathematicians for bagging awards during the competition.
“We are very proud of their feat,” Dr. Aguilar said.
The competition was participated by a total of 144 students from different countries across the globe, including Bulgaria, Taiwan, Hong Kong, US, Australia, China, South Korea, Thailand, South Africa, Macau, Indonesia, Mongolia, Malaysia, Vietnam, Singapore, and the Philippines.
The PMWC is now on its 22nd year.
The PIA has reported that the delegation of the Philippine team has now arrived in Manila.
