Vincenzo Episode 1 Recap

If you are a fan of Song Joong-ki, then Vincenzo a Netflix Original is a much watch for you. The Descendants of the Sun star plays the role of Vincenzo Cassano, an Italian lawyer, legal adviser, or consigliere of the Cassano family of Korean descent. He runs off to Italy where he was adopted by Fabio Cassano, an Italian Mafia boss.

Upon watching episode 1, we can tell that Vincenzo is dark, suspenseful, and at the same time a romantic comedy. This South Korean drama is a much watch since it was written by Park Jae-bum and directed by Kim Hee-won, one of the most notable figures in the K-drama industry.

Episode 1 of Vincenzo set in with Vincenzo Cassano stands while staring at the building and exclaimed that, “My goal is to tear this building down.”, and the building crumbled to the ground. Vincenzo was also fiery as he burned down Emilio’s entire vineyard after he raises an offer to Emilio from his former disease boss Fabio and he refused. But he didn’t make an offer rather than a threat since Emilio has killed a closed-friend of Fabio Cassano.

The conflict began after Vincenzo visited Fabio’s Funeral, as he stares at his open casket and called him, “Father”. Fabio’s biological son Paolo envied Vincenzo since his father trusted him more than him, and as he takes over his father’s position he wanted his “brother’s” loyalty, but Vincenzo can’t give it to him for he doesn’t deserve it.

Vincenzo went back to Korea after his brother Paolo tried to assassinate him one night and brought three mean to sneak to his place trying to kill him, but rather than getting killed Vincenzo shoots all three dead. Based on this scene, Vincenzo’s character is very skilled for he grew up in a Mafioso family when he was adopted at the age of 8.

Song Joong-ki’s acting skill is undeniably good, but the storyline is a bit inconsistent. The inconsistency was caught from the scene where he got mugged by a con artist when he rode a taxi and he drank the water provided which was spiked. He wakes up lying on the ground while the pair of swindlers steal his cash and designer goods; he was knocked out and left stranded with only $50 of cash.

Knowing that he was a consigliere, shoot people without any hesitation, and can destroy a building in one go, it is not acceptable that he will just drink water given by a stranger and very contradicting from his character.

Since this series is also a rom-com, it is a bit conflicting with Vincenzo Cassano’s character and may weaken his portrayal of a ruthless man who fights a big and powerful conglomerate together with her co-star Jeon Yeo-been who will portray the role of Hong Cha-young, an attorney who will do anything it takes to win a case. However, a lot was going on in the first episode and we’ve only got a synopsis of events and characters.

We’ve also seen Vicenzo’s reasoning and goals, but things haven’t shaped up yet and the scenes haven’t settled down. As of now, everything fits together and we can only assume that writer Park Jae-bum will smoothly incorporate his distinct comedic style into Vincenzo Cassano’s cold-blooded character.
