Manila, Philippines – Video games have gone from just being a means to pass time to being a new source of entertainment and even a source of income. E-sports have become huge during the past few years with prize pools going up to millions, and countless artists have become inspired by the visuals that such games have.
Overwatch is one of those games. Launched back in 2016 by Blizzard Entertainment, it is a team-based first-person shooter game set in the distant future. Players would choose from the selection of heroes available and which each unique hero, you’ll have different abilities that you can use to beat your opponents. Its launch was huge and it still has a great number of players, and there are numerous competitions held with Overwatch as the main game.

Joshua Llorente is a huge fan of the game, and as he said in an interview, it was the first PC game that he bought online. He loved the art style of the game and was greatly inspired by it.
He has already been exploring how to create 3D art, only using online tutorials and YouTube videos for resources. He then started going bigger and has first created a map based on Cairo, but what made his art trending was his on rendition of Manila, done in the style of Overwatch.
He mentioned that with all the freelance work that he was doing, he got burned out and decided to become creative with a personal project. It was mentioned that he used Unreal Engine 4 to create the amazing map.

He had used Quiapo Church and Plaza Miranda and he added a few things to create the map. He also added a few local “brands” to give the Pinoy touch. He also included trains to represent the Light Rail Transit that goes through the map every couple of minutes. The whole map of Manila, as if it is found within the world of Overwatch, took him two months to complete.
His Cairo map, which was done in the Overwatch art style, gained over 300,000 views in his YouTube channel, and got the attention of Overwatch‘s game director Jeff Kaplan.
