Miss Universe Philippines 2020 Winners Announced

Manila, Philippines – The first edition of the new Miss Universe Philippines franchise has just concluded. After decades of prestigious hosting under the Binibining Pilipinas Charities, a new franchise was announced last year. It was shocking news for pageant enthusiasts, but everyone welcomed the change with the hopes of seeing improvements.

The coronation night was initially scheduled for May 3, 2020, but due to the COVID-19 pandemic, it has been moved at least twice; first to June 14, 2020, and later was held on October 25, 2020. The coronation night was held at Cordillera Convention Hall, Baguio Country Club in Baguio.

The final competition was broadcast on GMA Network. Last year’s winner Gazini Ganados from Cebu, crowned her successor Rabiya Mateo of Iloilo City at the end of the event.

Starting today, Rabiya will be keeping the new crown called “Filipina,” which was crafted by the Villarica Family in Bulacan, also the Villarica Pawnshop Chain owners.

Each element of the crown represents the following:

  • The swirl of leaves – every woman who aims for success in “different forms” but still keeps “the Filipino values in their hearts”.
  • Diamond embedded in each leaf – signifies “the sparkle” in the lives of people that each woman encounters.
  • Golden south sea pearls – four values of creativity, intelligence, optimism, and fear of God.
  • Sapphire, Ruby, and Topaz – was patterned after the blue, red, and yellow colors of the Philippine flag.

Rabiya Mateo, the first representative of Iloilo City under the new Miss Universe Philippines franchise, was crowned the winner of the Miss Universe Philippines 2020 pageant held at the Baguio Country Club.
