Insular Life (InLife) has launched its Global Equity Premium Income Fund (GEPI), a new variable unit-linked (VUL) fund that gives eligible policyholders access to global equity markets through a Nasdaq-100-linked investment strategy.

The fund aims to provide potential monthly income payouts through an actively managed portfolio that uses a covered call options strategy. This approach combines exposure to major technology and innovation-driven companies with the potential to earn additional income from options premiums.

How InLife’s Global Equity Premium Income Fund Works

GEPI invests through a feeder fund in J.P. Morgan’s Nasdaq Equity Premium Income ETF (JEPQ). The underlying ETF provides exposure to companies similar to those included in the Nasdaq-100 Index, which tracks 100 of the largest non-financial companies listed on the Nasdaq stock market.

These include some of the world’s most recognized technology and consumer brands, such as Nvidia, Apple, Microsoft, Alphabet, Amazon, and Meta.

A key feature of GEPI is its covered call options strategy. The fund sells call options to generate premiums, which can contribute to its potential income distributions. Options premiums may increase during periods of heightened market volatility, although actual results depend on market conditions and the fund’s investment performance.

The strategy offers investors an alternative way to participate in equity markets while pursuing regular income. However, it does not eliminate market risk or guarantee monthly payouts.

InLife Sees Growing Interest in Global Investment Opportunities

According to InLife Chief Product and Innovation Officer Jose Eduardo O. Ang, the fund responds to growing interest among Filipino investors in international markets, particularly technology and innovation-focused companies.

“With GEPI, we are bridging this gap by combining exposure to world-leading tech innovators with an active covered call strategy,” Ang said.

He added that the approach aims to help policyholders navigate different market environments with greater confidence, particularly during periods of volatility when investors may be tempted to withdraw from the market.

Who Can Consider the GEPI Fund?

GEPI is intended for investors who want exposure to companies associated with the Nasdaq-100 while pursuing potential monthly income. It may also complement an existing income-oriented portfolio for those looking to diversify.

As with other equity-linked investments, the fund carries market risks. Its value can fluctuate, and income distributions are not guaranteed. Investors should review the fund’s terms, fees, risks, and suitability for their financial goals before investing.

The fund will be available for new applications and eligible existing InLife VUL policies for fund switches and top-ups, subject to applicable requirements. These include Wealth Assure Plus and Solid Fund Builder.

How to Learn More About InLife GEPI

The launch expands InLife’s selection of investment-linked fund options, providing eligible policyholders with another way to access global markets through their insurance policies.
