Supporters suffer from food poisoning at Imelda Marcos’ 90th birthday party
Manila, Philippines — More than 200 people have reportedly suffered from food poisoning during the 90th birthday celebration of former first lady Imelda Marcos on Wednesday at the Ynares Sports Complex in Pasig City.
According to Pasig City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council, the total number of hospitalized due to food poisoning are 231 individuals. They said they expected the number to rise.
Pasig police said the patients were brought to Rizal Medical Center, Medical City, Pasig City General Hospital, Tricity Medical Center, and Polymedic General Hospital.
On their part, Sen. Imee Marcos said they will provide assistance to the victim.
“Narito iyung nanay ko. Sa sobrang excited nitong lola natin, e mukhang hindi pa araw narito na, mukhang nagkapanis-panis na ‘yung pagkain. Gayunpaman, solid na solid pa rin. Asikasuhin na lang natin iyung mga nasa ospital at asahan po ninyong bibisitahin natin ang bawat isa,” Imee said.
Former Senator Bong Bong Marcos also released a statement regarding to the incident.
“Aming napag-alaman na ilan sa mga dumalo sa birthday celebration na inorganisa para sa king ina ay nakitaan ng sintomas ng food poisoning. Lahat po ng mga naapektuhan ay dinala na sa ospital upang malapatan ng lunas.
“Sa kasalukuyan ay inaalam ng mga nag-organisa ang naging dahilan nito at nagpahayag ng kahandaang makipagtulungan sa mga kinauukulan.
“Kami po ay nakikipagugnayan sa mga naapektuhan at patuloy na umaasikaso sa kanila. Ako po ay humihingi ng paumanhin at lubos na pag-unawa sa nangyaring ito. Makakaasa po kayo sa aming tulong hanggang sa ang lahat ay tuluyang gumaling,” Bong Bong said.
Meanwhile, Imelda’s chief of staff Bebot Diaz confirmed to radio station DWIZ that the 90-year-old lady is not among those who suffered food poisoning.
Last November 2018, the Sandiganbayan 5th Division found Imelda guilty of 7 counts of graft for using her Cabinet position to maintain Swiss bank accounts during the Marcos regime.
