Lucky Chinatown commemorated Filipino-Chinese Friendship Day by hosting the 2026 Chinese Filipino Business Club, Inc. (CFBCI) Table Tennis Friendship Tournament on June 6 and 7 at the Lucky Chinatown Atrium. The two-day event attracted over 300 participants from 93 teams, creating a lively celebration of sportsmanship, culture, and community in Binondo.
The Chinese Filipino Business Club, Inc. hosted the tournament, bringing together players, families, sports fans, and supporters for a weekend of friendly rivalry. Emphasizing the motto “Friendship first, competition second,” the event celebrated table tennis as a unifying passion that links communities across different generations.
The tournament attracted participants from a range of schools, organizations, and athletic groups, such as College of Saint Benilde, Mapúa University, University of Santo Tomas, Adamson University, University of Perpetual Help System DALTA, San Beda University, Emilio Aguinaldo College, Manila Central University, Philippine Cultural College, and Philippine Christian University, among others.
The opening ceremony on June 6 welcomed participants and guests with remarks from Gerald Uy Chan, President of CFBCI. Attending were also Minister Counselor Wang Wei from the Chinese Embassy in the Philippines; Mr. Patrick Gregorio, Chairman of the Philippine Sports Commission; Mr. William Castro from the Filipino Chinese Amateur Athletic Federation; and Norico Mizoguchi of Lucky Chinatown. Mr. Paul Yeung, CFBCI’s Executive Vice President, led the sportsmanship oath, followed by a ceremonial ball that marked the official start of the tournament.
Throughout the weekend, the Lucky Chinatown Atrium became a vibrant sports hub, hosting exciting rallies, enthusiastic cheers, and friendly matches. The tournament included four divisions, with players vying for the 2nd runner-up, 1st runner-up, and champion titles in each category. The winners were honored during the award ceremony on June 7, ending the event with moments of pride, teamwork, and sportsmanship.
Table tennis is an important aspect of Chinese culture, symbolizing discipline, precision, and unity. In the Philippines, it has become a common activity in schools, clubs, community programs, and recreational areas, accessible to people of all ages. The tournament fostered a shared passion for the game, serving as a bridge for cultural exchange and sportsmanship.
