Singing contests and talent shows are very popular, which each country having their own shows. There are also some shows that are adapted or would be “imported” from one country to another. The Voice of Germany is one of those.
The Voice originally was a Dutch TV show, which was called The Voice of Holland, but it became more known worldwide after the United States had their own version. To this date, there had been 145 countries that had adapted The Voice and its other spin-offs, The Voice Kids and The Voice Teens, including the Philippines.
A video clip from The Voice of Germany became viral with the performance of Claudia Emmanuela Santoso, who sang “Never Enough” which was from the movie The Greatest Showman.
The video was her Blind Audition for the show, where all four judges had their chairs turned away from the stage as she performed. As she was starting her song, one of the judges, Rea Garvey, immediately pressed his button to spin his chair around. As the song went on further and Claudia was hitting her high notes, the rest of the judges all turned their chairs around. As she ended her song, she received a standing ovation from all four judges and the entire audience present.
Claudia was from Cirebon, which is a port city in the northeastern part of West Java, Indonesia. She moved to Munich, Germany for her studies. It was also said that, aside from singing, she can play several musical instruments, including the piano and guitar.
She is also not a newcomer to singing contests: In 2014, she performed in the MAMAMIA Show, which is a local talent show in Indonesia.
The judges praised her singing and that she brought out the emotion of the song, with Rea Garvey commenting that “if they only fast forward the contest, she’ll be put in the finale immediately.”
The judges all wanted her to be part of their team, but in the end Claudia chose to be with Alice Merton.
