Back in 2017, the Philippines was introduced to a movie entitled Kita Kita. It starred Alessandra de Rossi and comedian Empoy Marquez in an unusual romantic comedy.

The movie starts with Lea, played by Alessandra, who is a tour guide in Sapporo, Japan. After witnessing her fiancé with another woman, she fainted and had temporary blindness as well due to the stress that she got. She then met Tonyo, a fellow Filipino that is residing in Japan, and coincidentally her neighbor, and starts being friends with Lea. They get along together until they start falling in love with each other.

The movie was received well and critics praised it for being different from other romantic comedies and that the chemistry between Alessandra and Empoy can’t be compared to anything else. CNN Philippines also commented that it is one of the best romantic comedy movies in the past 25 years.
With this, Indonesia will be releasing their own adaptation of the movie. The trailer for Cinta Itu Buta, which translates to “love is blind” has a similar storyline, with the girl catching her fiancé with another girl, becoming blind, and befriends another person who takes care of her while she can’t see. The biggest difference is that the setting is Busan, South Korea, instead of Sapporo, Japan. See the official trailer below:

The movie stars Shandy Aulia and Dodit Mulyanto and is produced in association with Viva Films. It is due to be released on October 17 in Indonesia.
