Every year, readers would anticipate Time Magazine’s choice of Person of the Year. The selection all started back in 1927, when the magazine failed to showcase the achievement that Charles Lindbergh did after he became the first person to make the first Trans-Atlantic flight on his own. Ever since then, they would choose a Person of the Year (it was known as Man of the Year or Woman of the Year until 1999) as the person who has made a huge impact and the most influence within the year.
For 2019, it is almost no surprise that Person of the Year chosen by Time Magazine was Greta Thunberg. Greta has been very active with her fight for the environment, which in turn, has inspired thousands to follow her lead.

Greta was born on January 3, 2003, in Stockholm, Sweden. She was diagnosed with Asperger Syndrome, which is a form of autism that makes a person have difficulty with communication and social relationships.
Greta gained traction with her activist movement when she started to skip school and instead she would stand in front of the Swedish Parliament and she would hold a sign that says “Skolstrejk för klimatet” which means “school strike for the climate.”
She gained further popularity when she was able to speak in front of the world leaders during the 2019 UN Climate Action Summit, when she accused them of “stealing her dreams and her childhood with their empty words.” This is also when she said her line, “How dare you!”

The choice for Person of the Year was met positively, while there were others that had said that the Hong Kong Protesters deserved to be Person of the Year, after being able to fight for their rights. They were able to take first place in this year’s reader poll, but ultimately, the editors of Time Magazine are the ones that chooses it, hence they chose Greta Thunberg.
Last year, the Person of the Year was “The Guardians,” who were journalists who faced hardships and even lost their lives for their reports, and Rappler’s Maria Ressa was included in this.
