Security Bank Foundation, Inc. (SBFI) turned over the two-storey, 10-classroom building in September. The facility has ended the shifting of classes for Grade 9 students at ICNHS, the largest public high school in Iloilo City, which serves approximately 6,500 students.

According to school principal Alpha Java, the additional classrooms have significantly improved daily operations.

“The classrooms are specifically useful for the Grade 9 learners, so we no longer have to do shifting classes,” Java said.

Iloilo City Looks to Faster School Construction

The project has also drawn attention from local government officials seeking practical solutions to the city’s classroom shortage.

Iloilo City Mayor Raisa Maria Lourdes S. Treñas-Chu praised the building’s construction technology and efficiency and expressed interest in adopting a similar approach for future public school projects.

She said the city hopes to replicate the construction method to deliver additional classrooms more quickly while maintaining quality.

The project demonstrates how innovative construction methods and collaboration between government and private organizations can help address infrastructure challenges in public education.

Public-Private Partnerships Support Education

SBFI’s Build a School, Build a Nation program completed the classroom building, with contributions from several organizations.

Security Bank Foundation funded and managed the construction, while A.C. Steel Industries provided steel materials. Signify Philippines donated lighting fixtures, switches, and electrical outlets.

LBC Express, through the LBC Hari ng Padala Foundation, subsidized the delivery of materials supplied by SBFI. Meanwhile, the Iloilo City government provided backfill and support for electrical loads and lines, while the Department of Education supplied classroom furniture.

These contributions highlight how businesses, local government units, and education agencies can work together to improve school facilities and provide students with better learning environments.

Security Bank Foundation Expands Classroom Construction

SBFI Chairman Rafael Simpao, Jr. emphasized that partnerships remain essential to improving access to quality education in the Philippines.

He said meaningful and lasting progress requires cooperation among institutions, communities, and organizations committed to education.

The Iloilo City project is the first of eight school buildings that Security Bank Foundation plans to donate in 2026.

By year-end, SBFI expects its cumulative contribution since launching its classroom-building initiatives in 2011 to reach 961 classrooms across 159 schools in 95 municipalities and cities nationwide.

Improving Access to Education in Iloilo City

The new ICNHS building represents a practical response to overcrowded classrooms and limited school infrastructure. For Grade 9 students, the additional space means fewer scheduling disruptions and more time dedicated to learning.

As Iloilo City continues to address growing demand for public school facilities, the project shows how private-sector support and government cooperation can deliver educational infrastructure more efficiently.
