Jane de Leon is the New Darna

Darna is a famous Filipino superhero character created by Mars Ravelo and have had both movie and TV series treatment for the past few years
Following Liza Soberano backing out because of her injury, there had been a new search for the next actress that would play the iconic character
It was recently announced that Jane de Leon will be playing Darna

Manila, Philippines – The character Darna is one of the most famous superheroes that came from the Philippines. Created by Mars Ravelo, it was published in Pilipino Komiks on May 13, 1950. Darna is a superhero, whose alter ego is Narda. She would need to swallow a stone, and shout the name, “DARNA!” in order to transform and gain her super powers. Contrary to what some believed, Ravelo took inspiration from Superman and from his own mother hen he created the character.

ABS-CBN has been teasing that they will have a new Darna movie coming out in 2020, and they originally had Angel Locsin play the superhero again, but she had to back out due to a back injury. Liza Soberano has been casted for the role for the longest time, but just recently, she also had to back down due to a finger injury that she had from her previous show Bagani.

With the Darna role being open, numerous actresses have shown their interest with it. Directors also had their own pick, but just this Wednesday, one person was chosen to play the role.

From a report made by ABS-CBN, Jane de Leon is a talent from Star Magic, who has been active with roles in shows like Maalaala Mo Kaya and La Luna Sangre. She also played Jericho Rosales’ younger sister in the show Halik.
